So my friend Heather finally hit the big 21, and in typical style, all her friends made her a shot book, we all went downtown and proceeded to try and kill her with booze. She survived. She took her 21 shots like a champ and kept going. I caught up with everyone when they got done with dinner and hit the bars, we went from Big 12 to Harpos to Tonic and back to Big 12. I do believe Heather is the last of the gang to turn 21, so luckily I’m done shooting 21st parties for friends (at least for a while haha). I have fun shooting them, but it’s always such a cluster-#$%^ and we’re always all over the place. Oh well, it’s always worth it in the end. There’s a link to my album on flickr below as well as the typical couple favorite shots of the evening. Leave some love.

I never do Black and White
Posted in: Music, Photography
I never do anything with Black and White… I’m not really drawn to it all that much, but today I felt the urge to mess around with it a little. Last night I shot a few photos of Scouts at their show, it was packed and I really couldn’t move around to get angles I wanted. It felt almost like I was being tested haha, so I hand picked 4 shots I liked and converted them to B&W and messed around with all the levels and whatnot… Well you can see the final product below, I was pleased.

365 Days of my mug.
Posted in: Photography, Ramblings
So last year I started the whole “365 days of me” project but I failed… This year (well a few days late but I guess it will just roll into next year a little) I decided to go for the gusto… I’m 8 days in and having a bunch of fun with it… You can view all the photos on my flickr or on my myspace (if we’re friends)…
Here’s what I have so far…

Chicago with Scouts
Posted in: Music, Photography
This weekend I went with my friends in Scouts to Chicago for a show with them. We left at midnight on Friday night and got into town around 8am… We hung out at a little coffee shop for a while until Chase and Corey got a hold of their friend Sam who lives in the windy city. She told us we were more than welcome to come stay at her place and she would come meet us to show us how to get there. She lived in dorms that rivaled many apartments I have been to, and it was so sweet. She lived on the 13th floor in this building in the middle of downtown Chicago, it was so sweet. While I slept Jawnny took my camera and had a ton of fun with it, so a lot of the pictures are from him, as well as couple from Chase in Subway. Saturday night Scouts played at the EP Theater with Mother Electric and Color Radio. The venue was so rad and old. After the show we partied some and then made our way back to Sam’s to pass out. We drove back this morning and overall it was a great time. Even if Chicago got down to -14 at one point. Big shout out to all the doods at the EP Theater, Sam, and anyone else who helped us out this weekend. Can’t wait to go back!

Trapped Under Ice destroys Lawrence KS
Posted in: Music, Photography
Once again, last week, I got the fine pleasure of seeing and hanging out with some of my favorite doods in hardcore. Trapped Under Ice, Baltimore’s gold boys, came back through the midwest and did what they always do, ripped it to shreds. They were on tour with Full Blown Chaos, Dirty Money, and Reign Supreme. It was such a fun show and everyone went off for all the bands. Some of my favorite shots are below with links to the individual albums.

Fare Thee Well Winter Tour Photos
Posted in: Music, Photography
Finally done with all the show photos… There were too many bands to remember the names of and divide into sets when I was going through everything, so I grouped everything by date… I’m sure one day I will divide them up by band and put them in my “Bands” category on my flickr account, but till then everything is in the Fare Thee Well Winter Tour 08/09 Category…
Furthermore, I didn’t shoot photos at all the shows of the tour. Unfortunately in Dixon, IL on Jan 2 some idiots in some really shitty As I Lay Dying’esque rip off band shoved some kid half their size into the band I was currently taking photos of. He tripped over the monitor and slammed into me, sending my camera/flash in the air. The venue and promoters were really cool and took up a collection to try and reimburse me for my loss. I will always remember and appreciate that. As for the too cool know-it-all members of the shitty metalcore band and their overly tanned pretty boy friend… Let’s just hope you never play a show near me or any of my friends again… Word is out.
Overall the tour was a ton of fun. Check out Crossed Off and Widower from Wisconsin, Barricade from PA, and Made For War from Colorado… All super legit doods who we met while on tour who were also on tour. We met and stayed with a lot of great kids, and it was so sick to see other areas of the mid-west hardcore scene. From playing in a Tae Kwon Do studio to a little lodge with only a fire place for heat in a state park of some sorts, we were all over and had so much fun. Big ups to anyone who helped us out and bought merch, gave us a show, gave us food, or a place to crash, it’s people like you who keep underground music scenes alive, and people like us on the road love you.
Stay safe America, I’m sure I’ll be out again with another band in no time.
Here’s a few favorites.
Hangouts and Bangouts will be sorted and uploaded later. I promise.
